5 Reasons To Pray the Holy Rosary

By: Alicia Guerrero

The Holy Rosary is one of the Principle prayers of the church. In it, there encompasses the heart of our Blessed Mother where she reveals in every bead the scenes that [she pondered] in Jesus' life (Luke 2:51). There are numerous reasons why to pray the Rosary, but here are five that give a foundation of the importance of this devotion.

Reason 1:

It is a biblical prayer where we find the main prayers taken from the gospel. The principle prayers of the Rosary are the Our Father, the Hail Mary and, the Glory Be. The Our Father comes from Luke 11:4 where Jesus teaches his followers how to pray. The Hail Mary is composed of the Annunciation and the Visitation (Luke 1:28 and Luke 1:42), and the Glory Be is the essence of who God as revealed in the Old and New Testaments. Father Ronan Murphy correctly describes the Rosary as "...the Bible on a string."

Reason 2:

The Second reason to pray the Rosary is that it prepares and sustains in us the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in our souls. Our Lady said to Blessed Alan de la Roche, "When you say your Rosary, the angels rejoice, the Blessed Trinity delights in it, my Son finds joy in it too, and I myself am happier than you can possibly guess. " The Rosary is an extension of the Mass. Our Lady continued to say to Blessed Alan, "After the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, there is nothing in the Church that I love as much as the Rosary."

Reason 3:

The third benefit of the Rosary is that it is a powerful weapon. Saint Padre Pio once said, "The Rosary is the Weapon of these times." There are numerous occasions where Our Lady has appeared to the faithful to promote the recitation of the Holy Rosary. For example at Our Lady of Fatima, she told the three shepherd children: Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco to pray the Rosary to end World War I and to convert sinners. This example proves that the simple prayer of the Rosary can have a high hand to stop such catastrophes such as war.

Reason 4:

The fourth reason to pray the Rosary is it gives peace, especially within families. The Family Rosary is a profound way to bring about family unity because as we pray, we are united together with our earthly family as well as our heavenly family. Father Patrick Peyton, a televised champion of the Rosary, stated, "If families give Our Lady fifteen minutes a day by reciting the Rosary, I assure them that their homes will become, by God's Grace, peaceful places."

Reason 5:

The final point why the Rosary is vital to the Christian life is that merely Our Lady has asked us to pray it. We know that here on Earth when our mothers ask something of us, we are supposed to obey. What happens when we disobey? We are then forced to face the consequence of our disobedience. If our earthly mothers require this respect, how much more does our Heavenly Mother deserve?

Every time the faithful recite the Holy Rosary, the heartbeat of Our Blessed Mother sounds throughout the world and heaven. The pulse of Our Lady' heart is what gives life and protection to the Church.
